An Invitation to the Ignatian Year
By Kathy Coffey-Guenther, PhD, senior mission and Ignatian leadership specialist
Dear Marquette alumni, parents, and friends,
We are so excited to welcome you to the 500th anniversary of St. Ignatius’ conversion journey, which eventually led to his writing the Spiritual Exercises and ordination to the priesthood, where he founded the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits! We are also celebrating the 400th anniversary of St. Ignatius’ canonization to Sainthood this year!
In honor of both inspirational and momentous historical occasions both in the history of our Catholic Church, and in the history of Catholic and Jesuit Higher Education, Father General Sosa, the superior general of the Jesuits worldwide, has declared this year the Ignatian Year, a year in which we are called to “see all things new in Christ.”
We invite you to join in celebratory events around the US and the world, beginning this week and ending on July 31, 2022. Please follow this link to register for emails regarding opportunities for prayer, study, and worship with other Jesuits and friends of Ignatius from around the world over these next months.
There’s a lot to be excited about for this upcoming Ignatian Year — click here to learn more.
Beyond that, stay tuned for our invitations to you for special events to celebrate with our Marquette community of alumni, parents, and friends as we come to know and pray with St. Ignatius, study his life, and share inspiration and wisdom about this Saint and leader who continues to inspire and lead us in our love, faith and service to God and Christ today.
Together, let us use this next year to truly live and “see all things new in Christ.”
God bless you!
